This story is a fictionalized expansion of a phenomenon frequently discussed in the r/Appalachia and r/Backpacking communities—the "hush" of the forest and the inexplicable sensation of being stalked by something that mimics human presence. It is written in the speculative, analytical, yet harrowing prose style of H.G. Wells. 

The Heavy Quiet:

This story is a fictionalized expansion of a chilling encounter frequently discussed in the r/AppalachianTrail and r/Backpacking communities—the phenomenon of the "uncanny hiker" and the primal instinct of "the woods going silent." 

The White Abyss: 

A Narrative of the Uttermost South To find the historical substrate for this narrative, one must look to the annals of the "Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration"—specifically the accounts of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1914–1917) or Douglas Mawson’s Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911–1914).
